Incarnation Flashcards
What is the incarnation?
•the word itself means “to become flesh” and refers to the fundamental Christian that God the son became human through Jesus Christ
Why do Catholics believe in the incarnation?
•The Bible says “and the word became a living flesh among us”
•The word is another name for Jesus to describe the idea that he is God’s word made flesh found in John 1:1-18
•Jesus was sent as a living example to all
How does the incarnation influence a Catholics’s life today?
Catholics will try to follow the teachings of Jesus such as “love they neighbour” in their everyday lives when making a tough choice or moral decision
What is Isaiah 53?
-A passage from the Bible about ‘the suffering servant.
-Christians believe it is a prophecy about Jesus and how his suffering on the cross would be a blessing for others
-it says “he took up our pain and bore our suffering”
-Jew believe that this is a metaphorical prophecy bout how God’s chosing people will have to go through suffering which will bring about the Messihanic age
How does the incarnation relate to the problem of evil?
•The problem of evil is an argument against the existence of an omnibenelovent God allowing suffering in the world
•For Catholics, Jesus being the incarnate son helps solve this problem as it means Jesus has endured the challenges and difficulties that humans go through as he was crucified and therefore God can understand and emphasise with them more
How would a Catholic’s belief about the suffering of Jesus influence their life?
Catholics will pray God to thank him for sending his Son Jesus and live in the hope that they will have an eternal life in Heaven.
What message does the “Kenosis Hymn” send?
-Kenosis is a Greek word meaning ‘emptying.
-Being part of our human form did not remove the divine nature or powers of the Son of God, but showed that Jesus accepted human limitations e.g. hunger, thirst.
-Songs are often sung as part of worship to bring the community together and to show key beliefs of the faith.
