What is “In-Transit”?
The time it takes to get from Staging to your assigned location.
What factors make your In-Transit time vary?
- distance between staging and incident
- perimeter of incident
- tools/equipment you carry
What is “On-Deck” defined as?
A forward staging position just outside immediate hazard zone, a safe distance from a tactical position.
What are some assignments for the On-Deck position?
- RIC
- crew relief in a sector
- reinforce a position in a sector
- any other tactical position per IC
After IC has assigned units to critical sectors around the scene, what is his ultimate responsibility in supporting each sector?
Layering, or assigning On-Deck positions to each sector, as tactical reserves for each sector.
***Assigning On-Deck will sound like this:
Command to E1, go On-Deck on the North side of the structure, E2 will be your accountability and resource location, you are assigned to North Sector.
On-Deck crews must size up the area they are assigned to. What does that include?
- find entrance/exit points in your area
- interior/exterior conditions
- unit ID of crews inside
- location of crews inside
- hoseline each crew is on
When On-Deck crew is used as relief crew, the CO should do a face to face with the exiting CO. What info is transferred?
- interior conditions
- routing to work area
- interior obstructions
- additional tools needed
- sector objectives
What is “Recycling”?
Air replacement and re-hydration of crews, while maintaining their sector assignment.
If conditions permit, how long should a companies work cycle be?
Up to 2 to 3 air bottles.
