Safety Belt
The safety belt is securely mounted at the 3 points.
It latches and unlatches properly.
It’s not ripped, frayed, cut or torn.
Emergency Equipment
I have spare fuses as required by law.
There is 3 red reflective triangles in a red box.
- They are clean, not cracked, not broken and not missing.
This is my fire extinguisher. It is properly mounted.
- Yellow needle is in the green, telling me that it is fully charged.
- It is properly rated for this truck.
- The safety pin is secure in the handle.
Safe Start
Gearshift is in Neutral.
Keep for over brake pedal.
Parking brakes are engaged (Check by pulling on them)
ABS Light
The light should turn off shortly after starting the engine. That tells me that it is working.
If it stays on it is not working.
It is yellow in color.
Dash Light Indicators
(Action, Color, Position, Which side of dash.)
Turn Signals- Green in color, flashing on right and left side.
4 way flashers- Green in color, flashing on the right and left side.
Brights- Blue in color.
Oil Pressure Gauge
This is my oil pressure gauge. It currently reads ______.
A red warning light would come on if there is a problem.
Voltmeter
This is my voltmeter. It currently reads ______.
A red warning light will come on if there is a problem.
My voltmeter needs to read a minimum of 12.
Air Gauge
This is my air pressure gauge. It currently reads ______.
A red light will come on if there is a problem.
I will make sure it works during my brake check.
Horn
Press horn to check that it is working.
I know it is working because we just heard it.
This is my air horn, would you like to hear it?
Heater/Defrost
I’m going to turn the fan on high. (Put heat on high and switch to defrost and check it by putting hand on dash.)
I’m going to check the heat by switching it to my feet.
-I can tell that is is working because I can feel the air blowing through the vents.
Windshield
My windshield is properly mounted and secure.
It is free of cracks, chips, is clean and is not missing.
There are no illegal stickers.
Wipers/Washers
The wiper arms are mounted securely.
The blades are mounted securely where they click into the arms. They are not missing, frayed, worn or cracked.
The washer fluid and blades operate correctly when I pull the lever with no streaks.
Mirrors
My mirrors are properly mounted and secured. They are no missing, cracked, chipped or dirty.
They are properly adjusted to me.
Parking Brake Check
Check that both brakes are engaged.
Disengage trailer brakes to test tractor brakes.
- Put the truck in drive and gently pull forward.
- The truck dint move, telling me the truck brakes work.
Engage trailer brakes and disengage tractor brakes to test trailer brakes.
- Put truck in drive and gently pull forward.
- My truck didn’t move, telling me the locking jaws are clasped around the kingpin and the trailer brakes are holding.
Service Brake Check
Check mirrors and in front to make sure it is safe. I’m checking for people and obstructions.
Release both parking brakes.
Put truck in drive and pull forward to 5mph.
Apply service brakes to stop. Shift back into Neutral.
My truck did not pull to either side. If it did, it would indicate a problem with my brakes.
