Lights and reflectors
These are my headlights. They have clear lenses.
They are not cracked, chipped or missing.
This is my turn signal light. It is amber in color.
It is not cracked, chipped or missing.
Oil Level
This is my oil dipstick. I would check this with the engine off.
I would pull it out, wipe it clean, reinsert it, pull it back out and check to make sure the level is above the refill mark.
Power steering fluid.
I am checking to make sure the level is above the refill mark.
The unit is properly mounted and secured. It is not cracked or leaking.
The cap is on tight. It’s not broken, leaking or missing.
The hoses are securely attached. They are not leaking, bulging or kinked.
Air Compressor
The air compressor is properly mounted and secure.
The air compressor is not belt driven. It is driven internally.
- It is not leaking air or oil
- The hoses are securely attached. They are not kinked, leaking or bulging.
Power steering pump
The power steering pump is properly mounted and secure.
The power steering pump is not belt driven, it is driven internally.
-It is not leaking power steering fluid.
The hoses are securely attached. They are not leaking, kinked or bulging.
Water Pump
The water pump is properly mounted and secure.
The water pump is belt driven
- The belt is not cracked, frayed or torn. It is properly tensioned with no more than 3/4 inch play at the center.

Hoses
I am checking that my hoses are securely mounted and that the clamps are on tight.
The hoses are not leaking, kinked or bulging.
Automatic Transmission Dipstick
I would check this with the motor running.
I would pul it out, wipe it clean, reinsert it, pull it back out and check that the level is above the refill mark.
Coolant Reservoir
This is my coolant reservoir. It is properly mounted and secure. I am checking to make sure that the level is above the refill mark.
It is not cracked, chipped or leaking.
The cap is on tight. It is not cracked or missing.
The hoses are securely attached. They are not leaking, kinked or bulging.
Alternator
This is my alternator. It is properly mounted and secure.
It is belt driven
- The belt is properly tensioned with no more than 3/4 inch play at the center.
- It is not frayed, cracked or torn.
The wires are securely attached. They are not frayed, arching or missing.
Steering Box
This is the steering box. It is properly mounted and secure and is not leaking any power steering fluid.
All the lots, nuts and cotter keys are present and are not loose.
The hoses are mounted securely. The clamps are on tight and the hoses are not kinked, cracked or bulging.
Steering Shaft
The steering shaft is properly mounted and secure.
It is not bent, twisted or missing.
Steering Linkage
This is the steering linkage. It is all properly mounted and secure.
The connecting links, arms and rods are not worn, cracked or missing.
The joints and sockets are not loose, worn or twisted.
The bolts, nuts and cotter keys are not loose or missing.
Springs
The leaf springs are properly mounted and secure.
They are not missing, shifted, cracked or twisted.
Spring Mounts
The spring mounts are properly mounted and secure.
-They are not cracked, loose, twisted or missing.
The bushing are not loose, cracked or missing.
The bolts, nuts and cotter keys are not loose or missing.
I am checking each mount where it secures to the frame.
U Bolts
The bolts are properly mounted and secure.
The nuts are not loose or missing.
The bolts are not bent, twisted, cracked or missing.
Shock absorbers
The shock absorbers are properly mounted and secure at the top and bottom.
They are not bent, twisted, cracked or leaking.
The bolts and nuts are not loose or missing.
Air Hose
The air hoses are properly mounted and secure.
The mounting coupling are not loose or missing.
the hoses are not leaking air, kinked, bulging or cracked.
Brake Chambers
The brake chambers are properly mounted and secure.
The clamp is not missing, loose or cracked.
The chamber is not cracked, dented or rusted through.
Slack adjusters and Push rods
I am looking for loose, missing or broken pins.
To check that they are working properly I would pull on it by hand.
It can’t move more than 1 inch with your foot off the brake.
Brake Linings
The brake linings should be no less than 1/4 inch thick.
Drum Brake
The drum brake is not cracked, dented and does not have any holes.
The bolts are not loose or missing.
I would also check for contaminates such as debris, oil or grease.
Front Tire
The front tire should be no less than 4/32 inch in the major tread grooves.
I would move my hand over it to check that it isn’t worn unevenly.
I would also check the sidewall for separation, cracks, cuts or bulges.
I would check the tire pressure with a gauge. The sidewall tells me what the correct pressure should be.
Valve Stem
The valve stem is not missing or leaking.
The cap is on tight and is not missing.
