Q

Explain diffusion

A

More molecules move from the higher conc. to the lower conc., through the gaps in the partially permeable membrane. Net movement is down the concentration gradient

Q

Explain active transport

A

More particles move from the low conc. to the high conc. through the gaps in the partially permeable membrane. Net movement is against the concentration gradient

Q

What’s active transport important for in the body?

A

It makes it possible for cells to absorb ions from very dilute solutions. Root hair cells absorbs ions from very dilute solutions. They absorb minerals from soil water. The small intestine cells absorb glucose from digested food in the gut into the body
