Important Geographical Considerations (6th-10th century) Flashcards
Ostrogoths
central and northern Italy, and sometimes into southern Gaul
Visigoths
Spain, at times into the Aquitaine region of Gaul up to Bordeaux
Vandals
having caused havoc while roaming round the Mediterranean, they finally settled in Latin North Africa, southern Italy, and the western Islands (Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily)
Burgundians
the central eastern part of Gaul, roughly corresponding to modern day region of Burgundy (it is not known if they realized what a gold mine they were sitting on with those grapes…)
Franks
At first northern central Gaul above the Rhine, but eventually the whole of central Gaul under the Merovingians; and Europe from the Pyrenees to beyond the Rhine into Germany, as well a great part of Italy, under the Carolingians
Saxons
northern Germany; many, along with the Angles and Jutes stretching up into the peninsula of Denmark, colonized England
Lombards
After the 6th century, they inhabited northern Italy, pressing down to Rome, as well as Duchies in the south (e.g., Benevento)
