Important gastrointestinal ligaments Flashcards
Falciform ligament: connects
Liver to anterior abdominal wall
Falciform ligament: structures
Ligamentum teres hepatis (round ligament of the liver; derivative of fetal umbilical vein), patent paraumbilical veins
Hepatoduodenal ligament: connects
Liver to duodenum
Hepatoduodenal ligament: structures
Portal triad: hepatic artery, portal vein, common bile duct
Hepatogastric ligament: connects
Liver to lesser curvature of stomach
Hepatogastric ligament: structures
Gastric vessels
Gastrocolic ligament: connects
Greater curvature and transverse colon
Gastrocolic ligaments: structures
Gastroepiploic arteries
Gastrosplenic ligament: connects
Greater curvature and spleen
Gastrosplenic ligament: structures
Short gastrics, left gastroepiploic vessels
Splenorenal ligament: connects
Spleen to left pararenal space
Splenorenal ligament: structures
Splenic artery and vein, tail of pancreas
Greater omentum: which ligaments are part of this?
Gastrocolic and gastrosplenic
Lesser omentum: which ligaments are part of this?
Hepatoduodenal and hepatogastric
Pringle maneuver: what is this?
Hepatoduodenal ligament is compressed manually or with a vascular clamp to control bleeding from hepatic inflow source (portal vein, hepatic artery) vs outflow (hepatic veins, IVC).
This interrupts the flow of blood through the hepatic artery and the portal vein, which helps to control bleeding from the liver.
