Implant parts and components Flashcards
1
Q
Drivers
A
- Used to tighten or loosen implant parts and
screws.
2
Q
Cover screw / Closure screw / Closure cap
(2)
A
- Screwed into the implant at the time of initial
placement. Prevents bone, soft tissue and debris
from getting into the implant fixture during healing. - Used when 2 stage approach is desired. Will be
covered by soft tissue during implant
osseointegration phase.
3
Q
Healing Abutment
(2)
A
- Screws into the implant to facilitate tissue healing.
- Placed after implant is uncovered at 2nd stage surgery
or directly when single stage approach chosen.
4
Q
Impression Coping
(2)
A
- Part used for making an implant impression.
- Screwed directly into the implant or placed over
an abutment previously screwed into the
implant.
5
Q
Implant Analog/Replica
(2)
A
- Exact replica of an implant fixture.
- Used to replicate the implant’s position in the
patient’s mouth and needed to fabricate the
implant prosthesis.
6
Q
Abutment Analog/Replica
(2)
A
- Replica of an abutment.
- Used for prosthesis fabrication at the
abutment level.
7
Q
Temporary Abutment
(2)
A
- Part that supports/retains an interim prosthesis.
- Screwed into the implant
8
Q
Prosthetic Abutment
(2)
A
- Part that supports/retains a definitive
prosthesis.* Screwed into the implant.
9
Q
Torque Wrench
(2)
A
- Used in combination with an implant driver to
tighten the prosthetic screw to a pre-determined
force measured in Newton-centimeters (Ncm). - Every implant system will require a different
torqueing force indicated by the manufacturer.
10
Q
Torqueing of the screw is performed using both
hands:
A
one hand holds the driver in place while the
other hand performs the torqueing by activating
the wrench’s lever up to the required value.
