The impact of the internet on the individual’s access to information services:
- Available all the time, up-to-date
- Millions of channels
- Not always edited
- Access from anywhere with a connection
- More open access
- Not always held to enforceable standards
Impact of the internet on employment:
- Skill requirements: employees need to learn new skills
- Job opportunities as the nature of jobs change: skilled workers are needed to support the development and to train unskilled workers. Others are needed to maintain and install systems that support this development
- Job losses: if people don’t update their skills in the use of the internet, they could lose their jobs
Benefits of collaborative working:
- Each employee can focus on one task
- Employees become experts in their area through experience/training
- Expertise is shared
- Employees can check each other’s work
Drawbacks of collaborative working:
- Employees don’t share their skills and expertise
- Employees have reduced understanding of the whole project
- It can be difficult for many people to agree
- It can be difficult to coordinate the work of many people
Benefits of flexible working:
- Employees can work at any time of the day
- They can work around social and family life
- Employees receive up-to-date info.
- Employees can work from anywhere with a connection
Drawbacks of flexible working:
- Reduces understanding between employees and employer
- Employees may not manage their work effectively
- Employees may become exhausted if they are working while traveling
- Employees may not benefit from the same facilities as those who only work in one place
Why is cyberbullying worse than in-person bullying?
- Information spreads very quickly and to more people on the internet
- Images/ information that upsets the bully could be false or edited
- Can isolate the victim by preventing him from taking part in online discussions
- The identity of the bully could often be hidden
Three ways to stay safe online:
ZIP IT: keep your personal info. private and don’t share it with strangers. Use privacy settings and strong passwords
BLOCK IT: block offensive messages or requests from strangers. Don’t open sus attachments/links and use safe search filters to reduce the chance of seeing age-inappropriate content
FLAG IT: tell an adult if there’s anything that’s upsetting you and report grooming behavior to national crime agencies.

What is “digital footprint”?
All the data that a user creates online, which is recorded and stored
How can a user reduce their digital footprint?
- Closing your old social media accounts and requesting all archives to be deleted
- Searching for your name online and see what info. is publicly available
- Asking website owners to remove old content that’s out of date or false
- Reading the terms and conditions because some services still have rights over your data even after you close your account
Benefits of working at home to individuals:
- No travel
- More time because not traveling
- No uniform or business clothes
- Can work at anytime
- Can fit work around family and social commitments
- Can work in a more comfortable environment
- Can work on a task for longer without being disturbed by meetings and colleagues
Benefits of working at home to organizations:
- Can attract a talented, motivated workforce
- Can employ people from anywhere around the globe
- Workers don’t have to commute so there won’t be delays getting to work
- Don’t need to buy or rent an office or furniture
- Employees may work more effectively at home
Drawbacks of working at home to individuals:
- May feel disconnected from the company
- May be distractions at home
- May suffer from a lack of social attraction
