- shows huge chance in 30 years due to better access to jobs, education and healthcare but also mass overcrowding in cities that can’t cater for this number
- World Bank estimates one billion people – 70% of the population – will be living in cities by 2030
- shows overcrowding only set to get worse as our increasing population grasps at job opportunity

- serious shortage of low-cost housing in Beijing and Shanghai
- shows two most populated cities in Shanghai are the two with the most limited housing opportunities for the working class
- house prices in China increased 250% from 2000 to 2010
- in Shanghai, prices increased 20% between 2015 and 2016
- shows places that are needing most affordable housing are the places making themselves most exclusive

government initiatives to improve housing
A
- five Year Plan (2011-2015) the Government built 36 million affordable homes in urban areas
- shows government attempting to make improvements but 36 million isn’t helping the increasing struggles placed on urban workers by the hukuo system
- gov made cheaper rents and a relaxation of the Hukou system, making access to housing easier for migrant workers
- shows those 277million migrant workers are being recognised and over time may have easier access to the benefits of living in city life
-however all land in China under state control, officials used violence and cutting off water / power supplies to force people out
