What is educational attainment and how is it impacted by abuse? And why?

A

It is common for abuse children to be below age expectations for educational attainment, if a child is abused they may do worse at school.
Why- children may have a lack of concentration n as their basic needs may not be met by parents or carers. They may also have low attendance due to abuse eg. Having marks on skin. They may also be scared of the teacher due too certain reasons.

how is attachment and relationships impacted by abuse? And why?

A

it is common for children to have difficulties making relationships and these can be toxic. children may also be scared of certain genders. the child may also begin to isolate themselves.
why- the child may isolate themselves due to the worry of finding another abuser, the child may be unaware of how to build these relationships as they only know an abusive one.

how are children with SEND impacted by abuse? And why?

A

children with send are more likely to be abused they typically under go abuse for longer periods of time as well due to having people thinking it due to the child’s send.
why- could have weak relationships due to low understanding from the adult. parents may find it hard to form an attachment with their child due to send. children who have send may also struggle to communicate and may not even nt aware that they are undergoing abuse.

how is a child’s physical health impacted by abuse? And why?

A

it’s common for children who undergo abuse to have a lack in hygiene and may be malnourished or even have long lasting injuries such as broken bones.
why- a child may not have learnt what bad physical health is so are unaware that they are not healthy. malnutrition or obesity could lead to further complications in life such as eating disorders.

how is a child’s mental health impacted by abuse? And why?

A

it’s common for an abused child to suffer from mental health issues such as depression, low self esteem, anxiety and self harm/suicidal tendencies.
why- children can develop these mental health problems because of the child thinking why is it me? this may cause withdrawal as they don’t want to be abused by others too. The child may self harm due to missing the abuse if it has stopped. Anxiety may be caused as the are waiting for another abusive episode.

how is a child’s socio-economic status impacted by abuse? (when they are older and have a job) And why?

A

it’s common for an abused child to be less successful in life such as jobs, learning and income.
why- they have lower opportunities as children often due to being brought up in a area with poverty. They also may miss school due to the abuse meaning they will miss education leading to less qualifications.

A

it’s common for an abused child to have tendencies of self harm or suicide, this is because they may miss the abuse meaning they self harm to feel the pain. children may feel worthless so commit suicide.

A

drugs and alcohol relieve thoughts and feelings meaning children who have been abused may resort to this due to liking the feeling of numbness and will allow the individual to forget about problems.

it’s common for an abused child to show aggression because that the behaviour they have been shown as normal, they believe that this behaviour is acceptable as that’s all they have experienced. They may also feel that everyone is against them so may show aggression to have an initial response.

it’s common for an abused child to take risks and they are constantly looking for change. they are looking for change to try and forget about the abuse they have undergone.

A

This may be due to them not understanding how to behave sexually and what is and isn’t appropriate. This may be due to missing school eg. sex ed lessons or it may be due to them being sexually abused so believe that how they were assaulted is normal.

it’s common for abused children to make mistakes that can lead to imprisonment this is because they want change so make risky decisions and choices that are not acceptable in society.
