immunity and vaccines Flashcards
passive immunity
-antibodies are introduced through the body but pathogen doesn’t enter body so plasma and memory cells are not made- NOO LONG TERM IMMUNITY eg breastmilk
active immunity
created antibody yourself from your own immune system following exposure of pathogen
what are the two types of active immunity
-natural active immunity
the creation of the own bodies and antibodies and memory cells
artificial active immunity - vaccines
vaccines
small amounts of weakened or dead form of pathogens introduced by injection
exposure to the antigens activates the b cell to go through clonal selection and clonal expansion- to make plasma cells and memory b cells
herd immunity
enough of the population are vaccinated so it cant spread and provides protection to people who aren’t vaccinated
