immune system Flashcards
where do pathogens exist
bacteria and fungi can exist within and external to our cells, viruses exist typically within our cells, altered self proteins, may exist on cell membranes or within cells,
T cells vs B cells (both produced in bone marrow)
T cell : a lympohocyte that is part of the AIS and is involved in cell mediated immunity. It has a t-cell receptor (TCR) on the surface
B cell : a lymphocyte that is part of AIS and produces antibodies, which can bind to a range of antigens
cytokine function
low molecular weight proteins that can stimulate or inhibit proliferation, differentiation or function of immune cells.
chemotaxis
movement of cells to an area concentrated with chemokines
chemokine
a family of cytokines that induce chemotaxis and activation of white blood cells (leukocytes )
interleukins
A family of cytokines produced from white blood cells (leukocytes)
interleukins
A family of cytokines produced from white blood cells (leukocytes)
leukocytes (white blood cells)
eosinophils, basophil, neutrophil (granular) , lymphocytes, monocytes (agranular)
What are monocytes and lymphocytes
monocytes ( macrophages) and lymphocytes ( B cells, T cells and natural killer cells)
