Immune system Flashcards
What are the two type of immune tissues?
Primary (thymus, bone marrow)
Secondary (lymph node, spleen)
Describe innate response to infection
Immediate
Targets groups
Limited diversity of antigen receptors
No memory of pathogen
What are some examples of innate responses?
Phagocytes, inflammation, cytokines
Describe adaptive response to infection
Gradual
Target specific pathogens
Highly diverse antigen receptor
Immunology memory
What are some examples of adaptive response?
T cells, antibody
What are some non-specific defences (innate)?
Skin (barrier and acid) Mucous Temp and pH (skin + stomach) Chemical mediators Phagocytic Inflammation
What does inflammation do?
Allows immune system to access damage
Removes necrotic cells
Increased BF to carry WBC
Whats extravasation ?
Emigration from vessel between endothelial
cell to tissue
Describe macrophages
Monocytes differentiate into macrophages
They are phagocytes that release oxygen radicals
What happens when a phagocytic vacuole fuses with a lysosome ?
= paholysosome= release of
- Oxygen radical
- Chloride radical
- Nitric Oxide pathway
