Immune Response Flashcards
1
Q
Gram-negative bacteria
A
powerful direct activators of innate immune cells ( e.g. macrophages and neutrophils).
2
Q
Some gram-positive bacteria
A
have toxins that cause massive T lymphocyte activation, causing cytokine storm - activates macrophages for destruction. E.g. toxic shock syndrome.
3
Q
foam cell
A
a type of macrophage that localize to fatty deposits on blood vessel walls, where they ingest low-density lipoproteins and become laden with lipids, giving them a foamy appearance.
4
Q
T helper 1 cells (Th1)
A
usually respond to threats from bacteria and viruses.
5
Q
T helper 2 cells (Th2)
A
usually respond to parasites, including worms.
