Immune response 2 Flashcards
What is lymph system important for
Lymph system is important for protecting from disease
What makes a response non specific
A non specific response is because they recognise ‘non self’ antigens but respond the same way to any antigen.
What is an interferon
Interferon is a non specific defence for viruses, it is a protein. Virus infected cells produce this protein and it diffuses to surrounding cells.
What is role of macrophage in non specific and specific immunity
Role of macrophage in specific immunity and non specific immunity are:
Phagocytosis of foreign cells. Enclosed in vacuole and fuse with lysosomes. The enzymes digest antigens. Macrophage presents antigen on surface. This initiates action of T cells which have complementary receptors to antigens, T cells because activated and stimulate B cells to divide and produce cytokines
How do interferons work
Interferons work by:
Preventing viruses attaching to uninfected cells by binding to receptors therefore preventing virus from entering cell therefore virus can not replicate and fewer virus particles released.
