Immune cell types Flashcards

1
Q

Macrophages

A
  • monocyte progenitors that are 6% of WBC’s
  • long lived
  • experts at phagocytosis
  • can kill 100’s of different bacteria

Q

Neutrophils

A
  • 15% of WBC’s, monocyte progenitor
  • experts at phagocytosis because there are so many of them
  • short lived
  • can kill 1 bacteria

Q

Mast Cells

A
  • rare in blood, mostly in tissue, monocyte progenitor
  • small nucleus, granule-rich cytoplasm
  • release granular contents (histamine) to trigger reaction

A
  • prior to activation, reside in tissues, monocyte progenitor
  • can phagocytose, but not expert killers
  • best cell at activating T cells
