Immediate and long-term effects of exercis Flashcards
what are the short term effects of exercise
Cardiovascular system=Increase in stroke volume;increase in heart rate increase in cardiac output ; increase in blood pressure
Respiratory system=Increase in breathing rate; increase in tidal volume
Cardio-respiratory system=Increase in oxygen uptake; increase in carbon dioxide removal
Energy system=Increase in lactate production
Muscular system=Increase in temperature of muscles; increased pliability
what are the Short term effects of exercise (24 – 36 hours after)
Tiredness and fatigue
Light-headedness
Nausea
Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness (DOMS)
what are the long term effects of exercise
Resistance training increases strength
Aerobic training increases aerobic endurance
increase performance,health,production of energy
cardiac hypertrophy
define hypertrophy
hypertrophy is to get bigger so muscular hypertrophy is getting bigger muscles and cardiac hypertrophy is the ventricles in you heart getting bigger to pump more blood
what effect does cardiac hypertrophy have
more blood gets pumped around the body
define cappillerisation and what effect it has
The process where new capillaries are formed
This has the effect of increasing the amount of oxygen that can be transferred to the working muscles as well as increasing the amount of carbon dioxide that can be removed
