Q
What are the methods of imaging
A
- Conventional (Xray and fluoroscopy)
- Ultrasound
- CT
- MRI
2
Q
How does gas appear in the small intestine
A
-Central, thin folds going across entire circumference
3
Q
How does gas appear in the large intestine
A
- Periphery
- Thicker and incomplete folds
4
Q
How does a small intestine obstruction appear
A
- Distended
- Multiple central fluid levels
- Less gas or no gas in large intestine
5
Q
What is the best way to image gall stones
A
Ultrasound (as only around 15% calcified enough to be seen on plain x-ray)
6
Q
Pros of CT
A
- Can pick up cancer early
- Allows cross sectional evaluation (unlike Xray)
7
Q
Cons of CT
A
High radiation level
8
Q
Pros of MRI
A
- No radiation
- Cross sectional imaging
- Better soft tissue resolution than CT
- Can be done in children and pregnant women after first trimester
9
Q
Cons of MRI
A
- Availability
- TAkes more time
- Not safe for some patients
- Claustrophobic
