Imaging Flashcards
Renal colic
1st line?
definitive? - avoid when? use ? instead?
1st line = KUB Xray
CT non contrast = definitive
- dont use in pregnancy and young females - US/MRI instead
Imaging for macroscopic haematuria
- if over 50?
- if under 50?
- pregnancy/contrast allergy?
over 50:
- CT urography (CTU) and cystoscopy
under 50:
- US and cystoscopy (CTU not justified because incidence of urothelial tumours of kidney is very low)
- CTU only when US and cystoscopy are normal but macroscopic haematuria persists
pregnancy:
MR urography - no contrast and no radiation
but this is less sensitive so only use when CTU is contraindicated
renal masses less than ? tend not to call problems
3 cm
Imaging pre renal disease
MR angiography to detect RAS
does US show hydronephrosis?
yes
testicular torsion - is the testis typically hyper vascular or avascular on US?
typically avascular (but normal US doesn’t exclude)
blunt kidney trauma is best assessed by?
CT
US HAS NO PLACE - can miss serious injury
dilated scrotal venous plexus
varicocele
black appearing fluid round the testicle
hydrocele
what are extremely common and can mimic hydrocele?
epididymal cysts
Testicular seminomas often have vascularity
:)
Staging testicular tumours - imaging ?
CT
