IFR Minima Flashcards

1
Q

Take off minima IFR

A

RVR 500m, the aircraft flight manual restricts us to this so it cannot be reduced!.

In theory in other aircraft the RVR could be reduced to 400m under the following conditions:
In the day time RVR 400m runway edge lights or centre line lights.
At night time at least runway end lights and edge lights or end lights and centre line lights.

Landing minima IFR

A

Single Crew 800m

Can be reduced below 800m for the following conditions:

  1. An RVR of less than 800m can be used for Cat 1 approaches provided by any of the following is used at least down to the applicable DH:
    • A suitable autopilot coupled to an /ILS/MLS/GLS/GBAS
    • Approved HUDLS including where appropriate, enhanced vision system or equivalent approved system which is not published as restricted.
  2. Where Touch down zone lights and or centre line lights are not available, then the RVR should be no less than 600m (EPLL?)
  3. An RVR less than 800m can be used for APV operations when using runways with FALS RTZL RCLL when using HUDLS or equivalent approved system, or when conducting a coupled approach if decision height is above or equal to 250ft.

Q

Take off alternate

A

Take off alternate
A take-off alternate aerodrome should be specified in the operational flight plan if either the meteorological conditions at the departure aerodrome are below the applicable landing minima or in case it should not be possible to return to the departure aerodrome for some other reason. Ceiling will be taken into account when the approach is non precision.

The take off alternate must be within 1 hour cruise with one engine inoperative.

Q

Isolated aerodrome

A

An aerodrome can be classed as isolated when the fuel required exceeds:

For piston engines 45mins + 15% trip time or 2 hours which ever requires less fuel.

For turbine 2 hours fuel above destination including final reserve. (1.5 hours without reserve)

Q

When is a missed approach mandatory?

A
  1. The stabilisation criteria is not met.
  2. The approach becomes unstable below the required point.
  3. At DA the visual reference is not in sight.
  4. Below DA visual reference is lost.
  5. If ATC request so.
  6. In case of a runway incursion.
  7. When the pilot not flying suggests a go around.

Q

Destination alternate aerodromes

A

The weather needs to be at or above the planning minima, one hour before/ one hour after ETA.
The destination alternate needs to be reached within one engine cruise speed within one hour from the destination.
