Nursing Considerations

A
  • pt ed to reduce anxiety, to understand procedure and potential risks associated.
  • Securing the catheter to the pt’s thigh to minimise movement or tugging, this prevent risks of urethra trauma.
  • Maintain asepsis to prevent UTI/ infections, bacterial condemnations.
  • Clean insertion site (1st) plain soap & water, then (2nd) with 0.1% chlorhexidine.

  • trauma to urethra as this procedure can cause physical pain and discomfort
  • UTI –» introducing bacteria to the urinary tract through the catheter.
