Indications for Inter-coastal Catheter removal
A
- ICC removal is considered when drainage is minimal or ceased.
- Any air leak that was present disappears
- chest x-ray shows that the lung has expanded.

Risks
A
- pain or trauma to the patient around the insertion site
- infections & bleeding & bruising
- pneumothorax as a result of removal of catheter.

Nursing Considerations
A
- request for removal must be written and documented in the pt’s health record prior to removal.
- must review pt’s medication and discuss with medical team If required.
- 2RN & analgesia 30 mins prior to removal procedure.
- an x-ray post removal, Obs & document.
