ICU Flashcards
ETT / Trache tubes
Can go through nose, mouth or trachea
Sits 5-7 cm above carina
Flex tube sits lower
Extend it sits higher
CVP
Enters via jugular and sits in superior vena cava
Measures central venous pressure and gives drugs
Continously changed and issues with thrombosis
ECG (Electrocardiogram)
White: right arm
Black: left arm
Red: Left leg
Measures electrical activity of the heart
Swan-Ganz line
Through the jugular or the subclavian into the superior vena cava through the right atrium and ventricle and sits in the pulmonary artery.
Measures CO, monitors cardiac state and knowing what the right side is doing tells you what the left side is doing = wedge pressure
Hickmans line and Portacath
Through the subclavian into the SVC or irght atrium to infuse dangerous drugs
NG tube
Remove stomach gas if patient on ventilation
Give food and drugs
Chest drain
Anterior- superior = ptx
posterior- inferior = effusions
Placed through the 5th intercostals space in the axillary line
Head bolt
Inserted in the subarachnoid space measuring the intracranial pressure
Arterial lines
placed in the radial artery and femoral artery
So they can measure BP and draw blood
Syringe pump
Timely infusion of drugs
PICC line (Peripherally inserted central catheter)
Through the subcubital vein into the superior vena cava to administer drugs
