ICT Hardware and Software (Including Integrated Box Office) Flashcards
What is an Integrated Box Office?
It is a piece of software that allows a customer to buy tickets, book seats in real time, and even buy food online, as well as having many other features.
Name three features of Integrated Box Office Software.
Online purchasing of tickets, booking seats from a seating plan in real time, buying food and merchandise online, signing up for e-news, join as members, purchase gift vouchers, processing payments, reporting and stock control.

OCER Theatre could provide its customers with a means to buy tickets online and book their seats using a real time seating plan. Customers could also buy food for during the show and merchandise using the software. They could also sign up for e-news to inform them of upcoming events or shows.
What types of networking hardware/software does OCER Theatre use to create a local area network?
Server, Backup Storage, Firewall, Printers, and Network Infrastructure.
What is a server?
A powerful computer that provides services to network users.
Name three types of servers.
File server, Web server, Database server.
How do you backup data?
Store data on a removable device, such as a hard disk or magnetic tape. Cloud storage can also be used.
Why would OCER Theatre backup data?
Backing up data maintains security, updates information about shows, customers, etc, and also prevents data loss which could cost the theatre a lot of money.
What is a firewall?
A piece of software that checks all data traffic into and out of the network against a set of rules to prevent hackers gaining unauthorised access to the network.
Is OCER Theatre likely to use a networked printer or a printer attached to a computer with a cable?
Networked printer so that they can be shared across the network.
Give two examples of Network Infrastructure.
Ethernet cabling and Fibre-Optic cabling.
What are the main Communication Devices that are used when creating a network?
Network Interface Card, Hub, Switch, and WiFi Router.
What is a Network Interface Card (NIC)?
A circuit board or card that is installed into a computer so that it can be connected to a network.
What is a Hub?
A device for connecting many Ethernet-cable-type devices, such as computers, where devices are connected through several ports and the data received is sent out again to all other ports except the input port.
What is a Switch?
Similar to a hub but more efficient, switched data is transferred to the destination line output, rather than every line.
