Salience matters
A 15 year old patient with a spinal cord injury learns to do a wheelie in two days, but a 50 year old patient with the same injury takes three weeks to learn the same skill
Age matters
A patient who learns how to do bed mobility on a mat in the gym, is able to do the same bed mobility at home in bed
Transference
A physical therapist teachers a patient wheelchair skills by having the patient when you were the wheelchair through an obstacle course instead of doing triceps push-ups
Specificity
A physical therapist educated patient on the importance of daily home exercises
