Motor Control Flashcards
Interaction of three factors for movement
Individual
Task
Environment
A discrete task
Discrete movement tasks, like kicking a ball, or sit to stand, have a recognizable beginning and end
Continuous task
Continuous movements, like walking or running, do not have an endpoint as an inherent characteristic of the task, but it decided arbitrarily by the performer
Closed task
Performed in a relatively fixed or predictable environment
Open task
Playing soccer or tennis require adaptation of movement strategies to unpredictable environment
Stability task
Sitting or standing, are performed with nonmoving base of support
Mobility task
Walking or running, require moving the base of support
Manipulation task versus non-manipulation task
Manipulation task involve movement of the upper extremities
Closed, predictable environment and stability
Sitting or standing on a nonmoving surface
Closed predictable environment mobility
Walking on nonmoving surface
Open unpredictable, environment, stability
Sitting or standing on a foam or rocker board
Open unpredictable, environment mobility
Walking on an uneven surface or moving surface
Regulatory environment
Distant
weight
size
height
Non-regulatory environment
Distractions
Noise
Systems approach theory
Movement arises from interaction of multiple processes, including perceptual, cognitive, and motor processes within the individual as well as interactions between the individual task, and
