How does the ice detection system work?

A

2 probes either side of fed fuselage, vibrate at a certain freq, when ice accumulates it changes the freq and alerts the system. System de-ice’s probes momentarily and then ant-ice. Will indicate icing for 1 minute after they are detected and an additional 2 mins thereafter.

How does the wing anti ice work? (WAIS)

A

Anti ice valves open to allow bleed air through system, wing anti ice temp sensors monitor temp of bleed air, piccolo tubes distribute air to leading edge and then vents air exhaust holes underneath leading edge.

How does the cowl anti ice system work? (CAIS)

A

Eng bleed (6th stage) 4 pressure regulated CAIVs, temp sensors to monitor temp (2 in each cowl). Exhausted through louvers

How does the probe ice protection work?

A

ADSP, TAT, AOA all on with weight off wheels or any engine running

P2T2 probes on when Eng operating.

How does the windshield/side window protection work?

A

Electric. Three sets of transparent heater elements, and three sets of temp sensors per windshield and side window. Turned on automatically when AC power available. Can be turned off.
