IC/EC variables Flashcards
Total body fluid
60%
Intracellular fluid
2/3 - 40%
Ekstracellular fluid
1/3 - 20%
- Interstitial fluid (15%)
- Intravasal fluid (5%)
- Transcellular fluid (ca. 1%)
What is transcellular fluid?
Fluids that are outside of the normal compartments: cerebrospinal fluid in CNS, aqueous humor and vitreous humor in the eye, synovial fluid in the joints, glandular secretions, and serous fluid etc.
What is interstitial fluid?
Surrounds the cells, but does not circulate
What is intravasal fluid?
Blood plasma.
What does ICF primarily consist of?
K+ and organic anions, proteins etc.
-The cell membranes and cellular metabolism control the constituents
What does ECF primarily consist of?
NaCl and NaHCO3
