Alternating constipation + diarrhoea

Young adult women
20-30 years old

Cramps/spasms
A
1st line = Mebeverine, Alverine, Peppermint oil (also used for heartburn/local irritation of mouth/oesophagus)
2nd line = TCA (low dose, unlicensed for abdominal pain)
3rd line = SSRI

Laxatives
A
Any laxative EXCEPT lactulose as it can cause bloating.
Linoclotide = constipation unresponsive to laxataives after 12 months)

Diarrhoea
A
Loperamide
