I HATE ANKLE LIGAMENTS Flashcards
Plantar calcaneonavicular
known as spring ligament
strong, thick
inferior aspect
attaches from sustentaculum tali to navicular
helps support head of taus and maintain medial longitudinal arch of foot
Spring ligament
Plantar calcaneonavicular
Bifurcate ligament
anterior dorsum of calcaneus
provides stability to calcneocuboid and talcalaneonavicular joints
Talonavicular ligament
broad, fibrous sheet
reinforces dorsal aspect of capsule of the talcalcenonavicular joint
superior portion
Deltoid Ligament
has 4 parts; anterior tibiotalar, tibionavicular, tibiocalcaneal, posterior tibiotalar
known as MCL of ankle
thick, very strong, collectively resist EVERSION
Interosseous talocalcaneal ligament
deep, strong band that serves as chief ligament binding calcaneus and talus
taut during eversion
Calcaneofibular ligament
LCL
largest of LCL
strong, cordlike
lies deep to fibular tendons
prevents inversion
Posterior Talofibular ligament
LCL
attaches at lateral malleolar fossa, passes posteromedially to attach at lateral tubercle of posterior process of talus
helps stabilize ankle, resistance of inversion
STRONGEST OF LCL
Anterior talofibular ligament
LCL
attached at anterior border of lateral malleolus
helps stabilize ankle, resistance of inversion
Inferior transverse (tibiofibular) ligament
inferior to posterior tibiofibular ligament
strong
forms posterior labrum of talocrural joint at tibiotalar articulation
helps prevent talus moving posteriorly
distal aspect
above talocrucal joint
most likely in high ankle sprain
deepens articulation for talus
Posterior tibiofibular ligament
strong, thick
strengthens inferior tibiofibular joint. mainly stability medial aspect
above talocrucal joint
Anterior tibiofibular ligament
strong, flat, fibrous band
lateral side
above talocrucal joint
Interosseous tibiofibular ligament
strong
prevents talus from being forced upwards between tibia and fibula
posterior
not connected to talus
LCL of ankle
Calcenofibular
Posterior Talofibular
Anterior Talofibular
