Need for ventilation or resuscitation

Hypotonia
Weak/absent reflexes - suck, gag, Moro

When do you treat HIE
A
Grade 2/3 I.e evidence of encephalopathy

How is HIE treated and what is the mechanism of action
A
Cooling to 34.5 degrees
Reduces brain swelling secondary to hypoxic brain damage so reduces risk of further brain damage
