What is the treatment for hypothyroidism?

A

Levothyroxine
Lifelong treatment
Leaves T3, T4 in the body
Long, slow onset
Take on empty stomach, in the morning
Do not take with calcium: milk, yogurt, eggs
Do not take w/ iron
Do not stop abruptly

Life threatening

stress triggered (acute illness, surgery, chemo, sedatives/ opioids)
