What is Cushings disease?
Too much cortisol hormone “hypercortisolism”
What are the S/S?
High BP/HR
High sodium
High sugar
LOW potassium
Moon face
Buffalo hump
Hirsutism
Purple stiae/ easy brushing
Truncal obesity w/ thin extremities
Nursing indications
Tapper medication gradually (decrease slowly)
Assess for hypervolemia (daily weights)
Monitor glucose + VS
Neutropenic precautions
Low stimulation environment
Sodium restriction if edema occurs
What is the diet?
Low car
Low fat
Low sodium
High calcium
High protein
What is the treatment?
Ketoconazole
Take in the morning to reduce gastric irritation
Surgical removal of adrenal gland / tumor
Patient education
Wear medical ID bracelet
Report gain weight >2lb /day
Rest + exercise
Bed rest
Report epigastric pain
Do not stop medication abruptly
