Hypothesis vs Prediction/Control groups Flashcards
what are the types of hypotheses?
statistical (null vs alternative) and scientific hypotheses
what is a research question?
based observations that guides research
often don’t include indep variable
what is a hypothesis?
explanation for why a speific occurence or problem is happening and includes indep and dep variables
what is a prediction?
result or observtion expected if hypothesis is true (directionality)
why don’t all scietntific studies use controls that are represented on a graph?
- use natural variation in environment (correlational study) but limit other variation (ex wet vs dry)
- manipulate conditions (ex 5ºC, 10ºC, 20ºC)
what is a negative control?
allows for comparision to determine if agent understudy is having an effect
one grp with coffee + one drink nothing
what is the unperturbed by x control?
negative control where everything the test subjects are treated with are given to control group except the component understudy
decaf vs caf coffee
