hypothesis Flashcards
What is a one tailed/ directional hypothesis ?
The researcher makes it clear the sort of difference they expect to find between the groups or the experimental conditions
What is a directional hypothesis for a correlation
There will be a positive / negative correlation beteeen variable 1 and variable 2
What is a non directional hypothesis for a correlation ?
There will be a correlation between variable 1 and variable 2
what is a meta analysis ?
Involves a researcher looking at findings from a number of different studies and produces a statistic to represent the overall effect
A meta-analysis is a type of statistical technique that involves combining and analysing the resulls of many different individual studies devoted to a specific topic.
This technique allows researchers to get a better look at overall trends and identify possible relationships that might exist.
Since a meta-analysis combines many smaller samples into a much larger pool of data, researchers can sometimes identify trends that could not be seen in smaller-scale studies.
they can be conducted to look for overall Trends on larger scales
What is a null hypothesis ?
If results are due to chance
What is a two tailed/ non directional hypothesis?
The researcher states there will be some kind of difference between the groups or the conditions but doesn’t state exactly what the difference will be.
