Hypotheses Flashcards
What is the aim of a hypotheses?
What the researcher intends to investigate
What is a hypotheses?
testable prediction of results
should be based on a previous piece of work
What is an independent variable?
the variable or condition that is manipulated or changed
What is an dependent variable?
the variable that is measured or assessed
usually results in quantitative data
What is a null hypotheses?
states there will be no difference between the two or more conditions
What is an experimental hypotheses?
a hypothesis made in a lab experiment and states there will be a difference
What is an alternative hypotheses?
states there will be a difference. There are two types: directional and non directional
What is a directional hypotheses?
predicts what group in which will score higher
What is a non-directional hypotheses?
predicts there will be a difference, however it doesn’t state what group will do better or worse.
How is a good hypotheses written?
in a testable form
What is opernationalization?
a way of clearly stating how each variable was manipulated or changed and measured to be recorded (IV and DV)
What must happen if a correlation was to occur in a hypotheses?
both co-variables need to be fully operational
