Data Handling and Analysis Flashcards
What are strengths of Quantitative data?
- easy to analyse and test for a correlation or differences
- P’s are usually happier to provide quantitative data and its quick and easy
What are weaknesses of Quantitative data?
- criticised for lacking detail
What are strengths of Qualitative data?
- rich in detail
What are weaknesses of Qualitative data?
- more difficult to analyse and more time consuming
- P’s are usually less willing to provide qual data as its time consuming
What is primary data?
data collected by the researcher themselves for the purposes of the study
What are the strengths of primary data?
- suitable for the purposes of the study
- accurate; researcher knows data has come from a well-conducted experiment because they conducted it
What are the weaknesses of primary data?
- time consuming
- expensive to conduct experiment and collect data
What is secondary data?
data collected by somebody else for the purpose for their own investigation; you use their data
What are the strengths of secondary data?
- quick and easy
- not as expensive; data already exists
What are the weaknesses of secondary data?
- wasn’t collected for your specific study isn’t really suitable
- research cannot be sure the data has come from a well-conducted it; they have not conducted it
What is meta-analysis?
involves collecting data from a variety of sources and then analysing the huge pool of data
What are the strengths of meta-analysis?
high population validity and representative sample due to a lot of data
What are the weaknesses of meta-analysis?
- if wasn’t collected for your specific research; may not be suitable
- time consuming to gather that amount of data
- cannot be sure data was collected in a well-conducted study
What are the two topics of descriptive statistics?
measures of central tendency
measures of dispersion
What are the sub topics of measures of dispersion?
range and standard deviation
