Causes of hypoparathyroidism
A
Surgically removed parathyroid glands during a thyroidectomy, congenital absence - Di George syndrome, Autoimmune hypoparathyroidism - due to mutations in AIRE (autoimmune regulator gene) which will lead to the involvement of other organs, like the thyroid and adrenals.

Symptoms of hypoparathyroidism
A
The symptoms are secondary to hypocalcemia:
Increased neuromuscular irritability, cardiac arrhythmias, increased intracranial pressure and seizures

Diagnosis of hypoparathyroidism
A
Blood tests showing decreased PTH and calcium.
Differential diagnosis should be preformed to eliminate kidney disease – PTH would be elevated

A
Electrolyte replacement
