hypoglycaemia - presentation

A

SNS overdrive:
P up + BP, sats, RR normal
pale - peripheral vasoconstriction (adrenaline)
clammy - alpha receptors in sweat glands

neuroglycopaenia (g<3):
tonic-clonic convulsion
todd’s paresis - stroke mimic

bilateral upgoing plantars (only hypos + pontine haemorrhage cause this)

hypoglycaemia - approach

A

A - maintain airway to prevent tongue obstruction
B - oxygen
C - pulse, BP, IV access, bloods
D - AVPU + glucose (recheck in 10 mins)

if glucose <4 - IV glucose + IM glucagon

g<4 = hypo
