What is the social influence theory?
Believe that our environment can have a huge effect on our behavior and experiences. Powerful social influences can produce a state of hypnosis. Are psychological state doesn’t change and social factors influence people to believe that hypnosis will work. Examples of social influence may include peer pressure or religious cults.
What is hypnosis
A social interaction in which a hypnotist make suggestions about perceptions, feelings, thoughts or behaviors and the subject follows those suggestions
Is hypnosis governed by social pressure?
The hypnotists status and authority increase the likelihood that the subject will be influenced by suggestions. Subjects often want to appear cooperative which increases their suggestibility. The stronger the beliefs of the hypnotist and the subject the more likely they are to experience results.
What is the divided consciousness theory?
Believes that our consciousness splits so that one aspect on consciousness is not aware of the role that the other parts are playing.
What are the key difference between the two explanations of hypnosis?
Social Influence Theory says that hypnosis is a result of external social variables.
Divided Consciousness Theory says that hypnosis is a result of an exaggerated division of external consciousness.
What are posthypnotic suggestions?
Hypnotic suggestions that the subject will carry out after the hypnosis session has ended.
Explain it’s hypnosis and memory
Sometimes individuals may recover seemingly lost memories during a hypnosis session.
Explain hypnosis in therapy
Hypnosis has been used in a variety of therapeutic setting in which subjects have experienced relief with problems. This may be like the placebo effect
Hypnosis and pain control?
Hypnosis may work as pain control. May allow people to avoid things such as drugs.
