High salt intake and cholesterol contribute to the blood vessels become stiffen
The blood vessels lumpen are narrowed thus increase the pressure against the wall of the lumen

Obesity body mass index of >27.5 high risk
Smoking
Physical inactivity
Chinese
Male
Reported to have higher incidence of hypertension
Which race have highest incidence of hypertension

Malay has highest prevalence
Followed by Chinese then Indian
More commonly among men than women

- Stroke
- Kidney failure
- Heart failure

How to control BP?
- Stop smoking
- Change diet
- Change lifestyle
- Do not drink
- Check your weight control your salt intake
Experience Side effects of medication
Enalapril- coughing
Carvedilol- watch for slow heart rate
Nifedipine- swelling in the lower limbs
How does beta blocker help?
It blocks the beta1 receptors in heart
Reducing the force of contraction
