What are the risks for hypertension?
A
FH, Age, Moderate/High alcohol intake, obesity, Diabetes

What are the investigations for hypertension?
A
ABPM or HBPM, ECG, lipid panel

What is stage 1 hypertension?
A
140/90 clinical, 135/85 ABPM

What is stage 2 hypertension?
A
160/100mmHg clinical. 150/95 ABPM

What is severe hypertension ?
A
Systolic >180mmHg, Diastolic >110,mmHg

How do you treat hypertension?
A
Step 1 - CCB (>55, afro carribean), TTD if CCB not tolerated. ACEi/ARB(<55, NOT SUITABLE FOR FEMALES OF CHILD BEARING AGE, AFRO-CARRIBEANS)
Step 2 - Add a TTD
Step 3 - Add ACEi, CCB and TTD together
Step 4 - Low dose spironolactone or TTD
