What is a DVT?
A
the development of a blood clot in a major deep vein in the leg, thigh, pelvis, or abdomen, which may result in impaired venous blood flow and consequent leg swelling and pain

What are the causes of DVT?
A
Virchows Triad
- Changes in blood constituency
- Changes in blood flow
- Changes in vessel wall

What are the signs of DVT?
A
Unilateral limb swelling and pitting oedema

What are the symptoms of a DVT?
A
Pain in affected leg, erythema, pigmentation, warmth

What investigations can be done for suspected DVT?
A
Wells Score, D-Dimer, Compression Ultrasound, FBC

What treatment should be given?
A
Unfractioned/Low Molecular Weight Heparin, Warfarin, Anticoags, Thrombolysis
