Angina Flashcards
What is stable angina?
Formation of atherosclerotic plaque causing mild ischaemia to heart muscle. Demand exceeds supply
What are the signs of stable angina?
Xanthalasma, corneal arcus, hypertension, tachycardia
What are the symptoms of stable angina?
Central radiating chest pain –> neck/arms,fatigue, claudication, shortness of breath, palpitations
What investigations should be done if stable angina is suspected?
Exercise tolerance test, ECG, ECHO, lipid profile, FBC
What is the treatment for stable angina?
GTN spray, smoking cessaation, treat risk factors, ASPIRIN, bisoprolol
What is unstable angina?
Disruption of atherosclerotic plaque results in lumen narrowing and lack of perfusion to cardiac muscles
What are the risk factors for angina?
Atherosclerosis, throbosis, smoking, diabetes, obesity, hypertension, age, family history
What are the signs for unstable angina?
ST elevation on ECG, fourth heart sound, bruit, tachycardia
What are symptoms of unstable angina?
Central radiating chest pain, dyspnoea, fatigue, dizziness, claudication, palpitations
What investigations are done in ustable angina?
ECG, Troponin, ECHO, FBC, CXR, perfusion scan
How should unstable angina be treated?
Nitrates, CCBs, heparin, ACEi, propanalol, bisoprolol, , aspirin, statin
