HTN - Ask about problems with
kidneys, chest pain, brain issues
Hypertensive Emergency
Sudden, acute elevation of BP (≥180 and/or ≥120) with possibility of serious CV outcome
Functional Capacity
Ability to engage in normal physical activity without symptoms - measured in METS
BP <160/100 - proceed with care?
Yup
160-180/100-110 - proceed with care
Cautiously yes. BP monitoring needed. See PCP within a month
Over 180/110
Defer elective treatment
Asymptomatic: to PCP within 1 week
Symptomatic and/or diastolic >120: immediate evaluation
Orthostatic hypotension -
body compensating for quick movements - lightheaded after moving quickly.
