Hypersensitivity Reactions (ACID) Flashcards
What are the hypersensitivity reactions?
Type I: anaphylactic
Type II: cytotoxic
Type III: immune complex
Type IV: delayed hypersensitivity
With a type I reactions the antigen reacts with what?
IgE
In a type I when an antigen reacts with IgE it causes what to occur?
Mast cells to release histamine, heparin
as seen in allergies and asthma
When type II reactions occur what happens?
IgG and IgM destroy cells
What diseases see a type II reaction?
Erythoblastosis fetalis Acute transfusion reaction Autoimmune hemolytic anemia ITP Graves Disease Goodpasture syndrome Myastenia gravis
What occurs in a type III reaction?
IgG mediated immune complex triggers inflammation
A type III reaction is seen where?
Serum sickness SLE RA Post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis Farmer's lung
Type IV reactions are mediated by what?
T cells
Type IV reactions are seen where?
Mantoux testing for TB
Touching poison ivy (contact dermatitis)
Chronic transplant rejection
Type I diabetes mellitus
In type IV reaction what is NOT produced?
Antibodies
