Hyperkalaemia Flashcards
1
Q
What metabolic picture is hyperK associated with?
A
Metabolic acidosis
2
Q
What are the causes?
A
AKI
Drugs: K sparing diuretics, ACEi, A2RBs, spirinolactone, ciclosporin, heparin
3
Q
How does aldosterone impact potassium levels?
A
Aldosterone deficiency/ inhibition = less K excreted in urine = hyperkalaemia
4
Q
How does it present?
A
Fast irregular pulse Palpitations Chest pain Weakness Dizziness
5
Q
What is seen on ECG?
A
Tall-tented T-waves
Small P-waves
Wide QRS
Ventricular fibrillation
6
Q
How is it mx?
A
RX cause If K >6.5 or ECG change = urgent RX - Calcium gluconate - IV insulin & glucose Nebulised salbutamol (polystyrene sulfonate resin)
