3 indications of incentive spitromerty
A
- signs of developing pulmonary atelectasis from upper abdominal surgery ( any surgery near diaphragm) which prevents pt from taking normal/ deep breaths
- presence of pulmonary atelectasis
- presence of restrictive lung defect associated with quadriplegia or dysfunctional diaphragm

3 IC contraindications
A
- pt cannot cooperate or understand/ demonstrate IC
- pt cannot be instructed or supervised
- pt is unable to take a deep breath ( VC 10 ml/kg or IC 1/3 predicted)

A
- hyperventilation
- fatigue
- exacerbation of bronchospasm
