Clo3 Flashcards
What are some therapeutic gases
O2, o2-NO( nitric oxide), and o2-He(heliox)
Is oxygen flammable
No but it support’s combustion( burns faster)
Oxygen production is done by
Fractional distillation (evaporation and condensation of liquid to extract purified concentration) of atmospheric air
Even tho COPD patients are o2 retainers what should we still give them
Breathing treatments via air flow meter or compressed gas
What is Heliox
Mixture of o2 and helium. Does not support combustion or life therefore must be delivered at least 20% o2
When should heliox be given
Patients with severe asthma to reduce WOB by reducing turbulent flow
Heliox delivers
Low density gas to bypass around obstructions
Must be at least 20% o2
How to calculate actual flow rate using heliox
Total flow= flow rate x factor
Factors: 1.8 greater than L/Min with 80/20
1.6 greater than L/Min with 70/30
What does nitric oxide do
Improves blood flow to alveoli which will improve o2 transport
Is NO(Nitric oxide) FDA approved
Yes FDA approved for infants with hypoxic respiratory failure
What material is compressed gas cylinders manufactured from
Seamless steel
What is E tank factor
0.28
What is H tank factor
3.14
What is the amount in a full tank
2200 psig
What are some cylinder markings
Color coding, labeling, connection indexing systems
What color is oxygen gas
Green
What color is air
Yellow
What color is helium gas
Brown
What color is heliox gas
Green and brown
What color is nitric oxide NO gas
Teal and black
What is the manifold system
Supply of gas
How to clean a cylinder tank
Quickly open and close tank to remove any debris known as cracking
How much does 1 L of liquid o2 weigh
2.5 pounds and produce 860 L of o2
How to calculate duration of flow
Psig x cylinder factor / flow
Factor: H tank 3.14
E tank 0.28
What is the zone valves
Found throughout the system and is used to terminate o2 delivery in case of fire and can turn off sections of the system for maintenance without the whole system shutting off
When a full gas tank contains more than 2200 psig the pressure is too high and must..
Be reduced to pressure of 50 psig by using a regulator
When is bourdon gauge needed
For complicated changes to flow and pressure
When troubleshooting an E tanks and notice that max pressure is read but feel no flow what does it mean
Tank is empty and PSI gauge must be broken
